SUMMARY:Grief and the Healing Forest – IN PERSON
DESCRIPTION:Join Julie Mariouw for a slow-paced, guided nature experience designed to help us move out of our heads and into our bodies. Through guided forest meditation, sensory awareness, gentle invitations such as “What’s in Motion,” and periods of quiet reflection, we will explore what becomes possible when we slow down and give our attention to the living world around us. Between each activity we will gather in a Sharing Circle–not to offer advice or respond to one another, but simply to listen and hold space for whatever emerges. The forest knows something about grief. It knows loss and change, death and renewal, letting go and beginning again. It doesn’t ask us to hurry. It simply makes room.  \nNo previous experience with forest bathing or meditation is necessary. We will walk on a nature trail, so please wear supportive shoes, socks, and long pants to protect against insects. Approximately 0.8 mile walk. This is not a therapy session. This is a safe space for those grieving to explore another avenue to release, be curious about, and sit with their grief through a guided nature experience.\n\nThe full address of the meeting spot will be shared once you register, but it will be held in Chelsea, Michigan and will be in person. Participants will be asked to sign two releases/waivers before starting the guided forest walk. Participants should wear sturdy shoes, socks, long pants–suitable for a wilderness trail. Julie also recommends that participants wear long-sleeved shirt or jacket and a sunhat. Please bring a water bottle, but keep in mind participants will need to carry the bottle when we walk out to the forest. Please know that participants will need to walk about 0.8 mi total–to the forest and back–on the trail. It’s not a super-strenuous walk, but the land is wild, so please have the proper clothes for it.\n\n\nAbout the facilitator:\nJulie Mariouw is a writing workshop facilitator and forest therapy guide who offers workshops and forest walks through Wellspring Writing Workshops, LLC, which she founded in 2016. Julie is passionate about helping people heal through creative writing and spending time in nature.
